Interior Design by Alison Law
INTERIOR DESIGNER D.I.D | Calgary, AB
A Calgary native, Alison has long had an intuitive passion for art and design. As a child she was constantly reinventing her room and has fond memories of drawing and painting at the kitchen table with her grandfather. After receiving her design education from the highly accredited Interior Design program at Mount Royal University in 1990, she decided to put her pencil down, and her backpack on. Her extensive travels took her through many parts of the world. This experience not only gave Alison design inspiration, it broadened her perspective on what is important and has given her a deep appreciation for design innovations and global resources.
Upon returning from her travels, Alison decided it was time to “get serious.” After working as a visual merchandiser in the retail sector for a short time, she was given the opportunity to work for a renovation company, which led to a 10 year career as a kitchen designer in the cabinetry millwork industry. This experience refined Alison’s technical skills in a unique direction within the Interior Design field. After being the lead designer on two kitchen cabinetry showroom remodeling projects, Alison was engaged by Kohler to be a part of their strategic design team to plan and create a show booth for KBIS 2003 (the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) showcasing their cabinetry product line. As she continued to learn, strive and grow, her own unique signature started to take shape. Some of her work was featured in various regional publications, which made for a natural jumping off point to launch her own company. In 2005 Studio A Interiors was born.
A unique thinker, Alison has long made the world her test lab. Along with her love for travel, she has long been passionate about collecting art and distinct pieces. She discovers inspiration from poking around galleries, collectable shops and flea markets. Over the years, these creative and educational adventures have given Alison the unique ability to seamlessly integrate and curate collectables with ‘the new’ to revitalize spaces and showcase her clients passions and interests.
The perfect complement to Alison’s design acumen is her partner David, a carpenter and contractor. Although his full time carpentry job doesn’t allow him to be a completely integrated partner in Studio A Interiors, his extensive technical knowledge and the collaborative partnership with Alison has been instrumental in her success. The continuous reinvention of their own home has pushed Alison to become a better designer through innovation and experimentation. Sharing the same vision when it comes to investment, Alison and David also own and remodel revenue homes. They perceive rental properties as opportunities to cultivate their talents and create a unique product offering to discerning renters looking for a highly functional design savvy abode.
Alison has cultivated genuine relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and peers. She places a high priority on listening to understand her clients’ functional requirements, design ideas and investment goals. Her creative process, eye for detail, and experience with construction combined with a strong understanding of project planning, provides a unique insight into the deeper aspects of a built environment.
